This painting is unsigned but at auction attributed based on attached notes to the artist Ernest G Hood (1883 - 1919). It’s title, written on the back, is ‘Rewa - A Coastal Boat at Makara 1919’. “Not so”, thought a Bay-ite and bought it, against spirited opposition, for rather more than he wished.
Intrepid members of the Historical Society then set out to search of the coast for the actual place Mr Hood erected his easel. Their conclusion: across the road from number 388 The Esplanade.
